Often conventional in style and versification, always crystal-clear in meaning and diction, Efstathiou’s poems belong to a traditional category of verse that is still practiced in Greece; consider, for instance, the collections of Chrysanthi Zitsea. There are critics and readers who consider this kind of poetry dated or corny. There are also those who derive (from its writing and its reading) inner strength to confront the problems of daily existence in our troubled world.
